Pantry, Fridge & Freezer

Below is a list of items I like to have on hand. I don’t always have all of these, but these are our favorites to purchase, hopefully on sale. Local and organic, as much as possible. From this list of real, whole foods, I can make just about anything.

 

Pantry

Flours – whole wheat, whole wheat pastry, oat, corn meal

Other baking ingredients — baking soda, aluminum free baking powder, cocoa, dark chocolate, vanilla, chocolate chips

Pasta – whole wheat, spelt

Whole grains — rolled oats, steel cut oats, quinoa, brown rice, popcorn

Bread & crackers – whole grain bread, Triscuits, Akmak, brown rice cakes

Seeds – sesame, sunflower, pumpkin

Nuts – almonds, walnuts, cashews, hazelnuts, pecans, peanuts, pistachios

Dried fruit – raisins, dates, coconut, cherries, cranberries, apricots

Sweeteners – honey, maple syrup, molasses, sucanat

Oils – olive, toasted sesame, coconut

Vinegars – balsamic, rice wine, apple cider

Soy sauce

Sea salt, pepper, herbs & spices

Dry beans – garbanzo, red, black, cannellini, red lentils, yellow split peas

Canned – beans, apple sauce, pumpkin puree, artichoke hearts, tuna, sardines

Tomatoes – diced, sauce, paste

Sunbutter/Peanut butter

Tea bags

Coffee

Fresh produce – garlic, onions, potatoes, sweet potatoes, various fruits

Homemade granola, muffins, etc.

 

Fridge

Milk

Butter

Yogurt

Cheese – Parmesan, Gouda, cheddar, … cottage, cream

Buttermilk

Eggs

Fresh produce – apples, carrots, celery, salad greens…

Chicken broth

Izze

Condiments – mayo (shh!), Dijon, spicy brown &/or grainy mustard

Lunchmeat – 1x/week

Leftovers 🙂

Hoping to add more home cultured foods to this in the next few months — sour dough starter, lacto-fermented veggies, kombucha

 

Freezer

Beef

Chicken

Fish – salmon, tilapia, shrimp

Peas

Corn

Leftovers, extra meals, extra butter

Produce frozen in summer for future use in muffins, smoothies, soups…

Homemade popsicles or ice cream

The occasional no-no items we try to keep to a minimum – packaged candy, chips, cookies


Cleaning closet – for home & body — as I work toward making more of my own cleaners and bath/body products, these are the ingredients we keep on hand for that purpose

Bar & liquid castile

Borax

Baking soda

Washing soda

Essential oils – lavender, tea tree, cedar, sweet orange, citronella, lemon, lemongrass, eucalyptus

Carriers – almond oil, jojoba oil, castor oil, witch hazel
